I have been a CRNA for 40+ years, (graduating from Loma Linda University in 1981), working the local hospitals, counties, & manymission hospitals, and so could really appreciate & enjoyRon's account of working for 50 years in the OR!I read it in one day, it was so fascinating and brought back manywonderful memories. His depiction of scenarios and incidents isreally outstanding. We were always told that "Anesthesia is 98%boredome, (when things are going well in the OR), and 2% Panic,(when the gunshot victims arrive, or someone's in trouble)...CRNA's are truly at the forefront of most hospital emergencies, aswe are called to every place in the hospital to intubate, resuscitate,start IV's, Arterial Lines, Central Lines, place Naso-gastric tubes,manage ventilators, draw labs, etc. as well as managing the actualOR cases. Most CRNA's work 60-80 hours per week if you include theCall, and this is just expected of them.This is even more-so with the current and ongoingCovid pandemic. Many ICU & ER nurses aspire to take the 3-yrPhD CRNA programs, as it is truly the pinnacle of the nursing experience.Ron depicts the life of the CRNA so well, and I'mhoping that we will hear from him again!A great read.
