I've been close to this subject since reading Walter Lord's "A Night to Remember" on a cold December evening in 1973, bicycling home from the 4th grade, stopping in the snow now and then to take up reading. The story was so gripping.This work is definitely for those familiar with the story, though possibly hard for newcomers to the Titanic. So many sources are now available, this is a well organized synthesis. The numerous appendixes serve to let the controversies be considered faithfully without interrupting the central narrative.If the primary sources are so conflicting remember that a person who modifys their account may not be doing it for some agenda, but to make the story make sense to themselves and their different listeners. You take what you hear from others and blend it into your own. Great piece of history!
